Two nights when the whole farm lights up. Santa in the Pecan Museum, carols in the old church, hot chocolate in the Main Hall, and a hayride through a Heritage Village strung with lights. Bring the family, and bring your camera.
Country Christmas is a fundraiser for the Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center. Every family through the gate helps keep the Red Barn open for educating our young children on agriculture and history.
Both nights, 5 to 8 PM, all across the farm.
Visit Santa in the Pecan Museum, with children's arts, crafts, and cookies. The H-E-B Buddy and the Chick-fil-A Cow are joining us too.
Help Santa's elves paint toys in the Ag Education Wing.
Follow Candy Cane Lane to the Christmas Cookie Kitchen and decorate cookies.
Take a hayride through the lights. The best seat for seeing the whole farm at once.
Roast a marshmallow by the fire and grab some cowboy cobbler.
Hot chocolate, tamales, and chili-hot dog meal deals.
A blacksmith, a rope maker, the Seguin Art League, and sausage making in the smoke house.
The Heritage Village and museums are open for visitors, with a live nativity on the grounds.
Make a jingle bell necklace in the Bormann Farm House.
Build a gingerbread house, give it a holiday name, and put it on display for both nights of Country Christmas. Original creations are encouraged, and decorated store-bought kits are welcome too. Youth is up to age 14; adult is 15 and up. First place takes home an H-E-B gift card and a first-place ribbon, with ribbons for second and third.
Everything but the base has to be edible: gingerbread or graham crackers, icing, unwrapped candy, cookies, and crackers, with nothing that needs refrigeration. Every entry needs a roof and walls, on a wooden or heavy cardboard base no larger than 18″ × 18″, and no taller than 18″. Judges score each house on overall appearance, creativity, neatness, and clever use of materials, 10 points apiece. Houses not picked up by 9 PM Saturday are donated to a local nursing home.
Fill out the entry form with your name, phone number, and your house's holiday name, and bring it with your house when you drop it off at the barn on December 10 or 11. Questions? Email redbarnseguin@gmail.com.
